Abyei Civil Society Organization in Canada has donated USD 10,000 for conflict affected people in four villages in Abyei Administrative Area.
The Chairman of Abyei Civil Society Organization in Canada, Mr. William Deng Kuol expressed their readiness to continue helping people in need in the area.
“It is important for us Abyei Community in Canada to support our community because Abyei is important for all,” Deng told Abyei FM on phone on Tuesday.
Abyei Youth Union, a body entrusted by Abyei Civil Society Organisation already received the donation last Saturday.
The secretary for social affairs, Abyei Youth Union, Mr. Joseph Mawan said the money will be given to people in Leu, Dungob, Miodol and Kolom who have been made vulnerable by armed attacks. He said they will start giving the cash to intended beneficiaries on Friday.
In March, Jieng community donated 1600 USD to people from the same villages.
In January, armed men said to be from Misseriya raided Kolom located north west of Abyei town killing more than 30 people including women and children and injuring more than 20 others. The victims were buried in a mass grave in the same village.
Similar incidences happened in Leu, Miyodol and Dungob on different dates late last year.
