Abyei Girls’ football and volleyball teams under 17 lost their first matches at the Peace and Reconciliation Tournament supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
On Monday morning 27th March 2023, football and volleyball teams lost 4-0 and 2-1 respectively in front the Pibor Administrative Area teams in Juba.
In the second match, the volleyball team plays against Unity State on Monday afternoon, while the football team will play Lakes State Tuesday 28th March 2023. Abyei plays in the second group led by Pibor, Lakes, and Warrap States.
The delegation composed of 29 members left the region over the weekend to take part in the tournament.
This is the fourth participation in the JICA-sponsored games that are meant to promote peace and reconciliation among South Sudanese youngsters.
The girls’ football squad joined the tournament for the first time. In the previous editions, Abyei Boys’ football team was selected as one of the best teams in compliance with the rules of the tournament.
