Abyei FM Umbrella Program on Friday 26th May 2023 explored the roles of Christian and Muslim clergymen for a peaceful free and fair elections as South Sudan tends to cast votes by the end of 2024.
It sat down with Shiekh Chol Deng Chol and Joseph Nyuat Malual a preacher from the Catholic Church in Abyei.
The two clergymen narrowed their roles to advising the community, political parties, and politicians vying for powerful seats in the country.
Shiekh Chol stressed that politicians should focus their campaigns on electoral agendas than their opponents while Malual said that they could hold politicians to use power for serving their people.
Some callers reiterated the importance of clergymen in society for they are peaceful, tolerant, and have large followings.
Others wanted clerics to contribute to fighting hunger and inter-communal conflicts before the upcoming elections in 2024.
