Residents in Abyei Town are calling on authorities to identify a park for fuel tankers that are stationed near the UN headquarters.
They said these trucks carry different types of fuel including diesel and aviation JET A-1 gas on narrow roads pose a threat to many lives there.
Abyei FM Umbrella program on 21st June spoke to pedestrians, roadside sellers, Boda Boda riders, and a traffic police officer.
Mr. Jiel Aguek, acting traffic police director told the radio station that he was coordinating with concerned authorities to solve the issue in the long run.
“I’m aware that dozens of fuel tankers are coming and considered the fear of the community. We are in consultation with the contractor, and the municipality to locate a park then we will facilitate their way in and out of the UN base,” Aguek explained.
On the other hand, the head of department of local government and rule of law called for a coordination meeting to work out a plan aimed at solving the problem.
Callers on the program stressed that traffic police and skilled local drivers should take lead to avert foreseen risks.
