On Friday 16th June Abyei FM’s ‘Umbrella Program’ discussed a survey that showed most of the South Sudanese desire to conduct 2024 general elections despite challenges.
The study was carried out by Detcro Research and Advisory in collaboration with Coventry University in the United Kingdom with funding from the Peace Rep Program.
The perception survey was carried out from April to May this year and results were made public on 30th May.
It covered the 15 most populated towns in three regions of Bahr El Ghazal, Upper Nile, and Equatoria.
Respondents wanted the permanent constitution to be enacted by new elected government. They said a census can be held by the current government for fair, free and credible elections.
Most respondents wanted the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to assist the government financially and technically to conduct the elections.
Callers’ opinions in the program were divided for some supported the conduct of the general elections on time while others argued insecurity countrywide should be addressed before elections are held.
