A medical doctor and former head of the health department in the Abyei Administrative Area is warning people about a possible spread of Hepatitis B & C in the community. The doctor who works at a private clinic in Ameth-beek residential area spoke to the ‘Umbrella Program’ on Monday 10th July 2023.
Dr. Ayom Korchiek Ayom said that his clinic registers six cases a month which is not good for a small area like Abyei. He further said patients who request Hepatitis test are very few compared to other common diseases. Dr. Ayom suggested a campaign for general test exercise so that government officials can determine the magnitude of the problem and find solutions.
In response, the head of health department acknowledged that his government was aware of the issue. Hon. Deng Arop Mading said his government doesn’t have the budget to address the problem. He reiterated that they will not sit idle but work with partners to reduce infections.
The head of the health department urged individuals to check their status, get vaccinated or treatment for their betterment and the community.
