South Sudan experienced a lot of crises since its independence in 2011 and politicians are blamed for it. Observers say it’s because they don’t take seriously these issues that are affecting communities in the country.
This week’s Umbrella Program on Friday 7th July 2023 sat with a member of the SPLM Liberation Council in Abyei Town, the editor of “Abyei Now” an electronic newspaper, and a member of the development committee at Amenth-Aguok County.
Mr. Wuor Mijak identified corruption, tribalism, and lack of rule of law at the South Sudan level.
In Abyei, Mr. Mijak stated political grouping, one man making decisions on Abyei, pending traditional authority structure and the final status of the region as hot issues being avoided by the area politicians. He believed that if politicians are not serious enough to talk about these topics and find lasting solutions, Abyei and the country will not move on. He advised the people of Abyei to reunite and support the current administration to work for development and push further for the final status of the area.
