Consumers and traders in Abyei Town market protested the ban on the use of plastic bags. They said the order will affect buying and selling as there is no economical alternative. A businessman in Mulmul market who spoke on condition of anonymity described the decision as incorrect.
“Before we imported newspapers from Sudan but now after the war broke out there is no supply. Some shoppers leave items when they get a sack to pack it.” he narrated.
Nyanbol Chol sells ground nut paste and dry okra packed in a plastic bag and says people are not buying her goods.
On another hand, Achai Yak a buyer from Mulmul’s residential area said a small cloth bag is sold at 200 and bigger at 500 South Sudanese Pounds noting that she needs that money to support her family’s daily expenses. She asked the government to reconsider the order and put strict measures on cleanliness.
