About 2,900 children in Abyei Municipality have been vaccinated against polio in the campaign that was launched on Monday 4th March.
The head of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Mr. Achuil Bol told Abyei FM that they are still waiting for data from villages because there was no network. He said the vaccination campaign covers all Abyei villages except Marial Achaak and Tajalei, noting that there’s coordination ongoing with the UNISFA mission to escort immunization teams.
Mr. Bol urged the community to cooperate with health workers so that every child under five is vaccinated, saying that the dose has no side effects. Last month, two cases of polio infection were recorded north of Abyei.
