The Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) government repatriated 360 natives of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State who had returned from Sudan to their state of origin in South Sudan.
This was revealed by the Head of Department of Physical Infrastructure and Public Utilities Hon. Deng Kiir Mater in a press statement to Abyei FM on Monday 25th March.
Hon. Mater confirmed that 360 returnees including children, women, and the elderly were transported to the headquarters of Aweil East County, Wanyjok. He said that the repatriation was done based on Aweil community chiefs’ advice in Amiet market to take their people back home to Aweil.
He noted that the returnees were handed over to South Sudan Defense Forces stationed along Malual Aleu-Nyin Deng Ayuel road in the presence of the Abyei Area Security Advisor, commissioners of Alal and Ameth-Aguok counties and head of the Joint Peace Committee Chief Malith Ajak.
Abyei FM contacted Aweil East commissioner for a comment but was unsuccessful. Early last February, the Abyei Area Government transported 38 citizens of Twic County in Warrap State who had returned from Sudan via Amiet to their areas.
