The Chief of the Abior chiefdom, one of the nine Ngok Dinka chiefdoms has called on the Ngok and Twic communities to allow freedom of movement at border crossings for citizens for peaceful coexistence.
In a statement to Abyei FM on Wednesday, Chief Ring Achuil Jouc said that he was asking his counterparts in Warrap State to allow citizens to cross and not obstruct or prevent them.
Chief Achuil stated that the Ngok community has now begun to allow passengers and goods to cross safely without any difficulties, calling on the chiefs of the Twic community to speak to their youth in order to allow the free movement of people.
For his part, the Minister of Information in Warrap State, Hon. William Wol, said that they are committed to the President of the Republic’s orders on the freedom of movement of people, pointing out that those who obstruct the movement of citizens on the road linking Abyei and Twic are outlawed groups. Minister Wol appealed to travelers to report criminal activities to the authorities in Abyei and Twic to pursue them.
Last May, President Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered the Ngok and Twic chiefs to cease fire, allow freedom of movement, and demand Nuer youth to leave the conflict areas in Abyei and Twic, and work for dialogue and peace between the two communities.
