The governments of the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) and Warrap State said they are making consultations and arrangements to hold a peace conference between the Ngok and Twic communities in the coming months.
This came in a statement made by officials from the Abyei and Warrap governments to the Peace and Reconciliation program.
The Head of Peace and Security Department Hon. Chol Changath Chol, confirmed their readiness to restore peace to the two communities.
Hon. Changath indicated that his administration plans to live in peace and unity with neighboring regions, calling on their counterparts to control criminal acts.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Information of Warrap State, Hon. William Wol Mayom, said that they are in meetings with local organizations to facilitate the holding of the peace conference.
Hon. Wol said that the Twic community is committed to peace with the Ngok community, noting that they are in consultations and meetings with their counterparts in the Abyei Administration to hold a comprehensive conference in the upcoming months with the support of local organizations.
For their part, several citizens in the Abyei and Twic areas expressed their rejection of the continuation of the conflict and called on the government to achieve peace.
In a Vox pop of the Peace and Reconciliation program, citizens in Abyei and Twic expressed different opinions regarding the continuation of the conflict between the two communities for more than two years and called on the two communities to engage in a dialogue to stop the fighting and achieve peace.
