Authorities in Mijak County of Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) said that three women managed to escape from unknown gunmen in a forest near the county headquarters on Tuesday.
Commissioner of Mijak County Hon. Luar Mayol said that the women returned safely to their families without being harmed. The Commissioner appealed to residents to be vigilant about the activities of armed groups moving in the forests.
For her part, Ms. Achol Yak, one of the survivors of the kidnapping attempt, said that she was in the forest near the village when she noticed the presence of gunmen speaking the Dinka and Nuer languages, noting that the gunmen called her and tried to catch her, but she screamed and ran away, she said. Achol added that they returned to the village at night after spending hours in the forest because they lost their way.
