The Abior Chiefdom, one of the nine Ngok Dinka Chiefdoms, announced the death of chief Achuil Juoc, on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, in the Egyptian Capital Cairo. He was 90.
In a statement to Abyei FM on Monday, his successor Chief Ring Achuil Juoc, said that his father died in Cairo while receiving further treatment after battling undisclosed illness for months. Old age is believed to have contributed to his death.
Chief Ring added that procedures for transporting the deceased’s body to the region have been completed, indicating that they are in meetings about arrangements for the burial ceremony according to local traditional customs.
For his part, Chief of Anyiel Chiefdom Akonon Ajuong Deng, said that the departure of Chief Achuildit has left a big gap in the traditional administration, noting that the deceased was distinguished by wisdom and calmness and was loved by the Ngok community.
Meanwhile, Head of the Department of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, and the official Spokesperson for the Abyei Area government, Hon. Bulis Koch Aguar, sent the condolences of the government to the family of the late chief and the Abyei community, saying that chief Achuil Juoc was a guide and reference and that his death is considered a loss to the region and South Sudan at large.
It is worth noting that Chief Achuil Juoc had transferred his authority as leader of the Abior Chiefdom to his son Chief Ring Achuil before his death. Chief Achuildit was considered the spiritual father of Jech Abior Age Group, one of the age sets of Abior Chiefdom in Abyei Administrative Area.
