MTN telecommunication services in the Abyei Administrative Area went off just a day after launching the 4G network to improve communication and internet.
The company said during the occasion on Thursday 8th August 2024 that the new unit will increase coverage and improve calls and internet quality.
Surprisingly, the network began fluctuating on the same night and went off on Friday morning for hours something that created frustration among users. A user has called on the government to investigate the company as to why the network went off just a day after strengthening launch. Abut Deng urged MTN to find a lasting solution to the network instability or leave the region.
Commenting on the incident, the Head of the Department of Information and Telecommunications, and the official Spokesperson for the Abyei Area government, Hon. Bulis Koch Aguar attributed network failure to issues in its power generators.
Abyei FM contacted the MTN director for Bahr el Ghazal region for a comment, but he didn’t pick up the call. MTN’s poor services have been a public concern in the region especially in business and the rising level of insecurity since 2022. The largest network covering the middle and southern parts of the area could go off for days.
