The Administration of General Education and Instruction in The Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) on Monday, announced the results of the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) for the year 2023/2024, with a rate of 13.5% passed the exams recording a significant decline compared to last year, in which the rate reached 87.6%.
The Education Administration said that 436 candidates, including 121 female students, failed the exam, while 68 candidates, including only 17 female students, passed the Abyei Administration.
The student, Monykuer Dau Awer Kon, from Agok Secondary School, achieved the first position with a passing grade of (B+), and the female students missed out on the top ten rankings for the first time.
Comboni Abyei Secondary School received the highest success rate (B), while the Abyei Teachers Union School ranked fifth and last with all 53 male and female students failing.
The Head of Education Administration Hon. Nyinkwany Auger Bol, said during the press conference that the students’ performance this year is the worst compared to last year, attributing the reasons for failure to the lack of qualified teachers, the students’ behavior with teachers, and the lack of preparation of the school environment.
Hon. Aguer encouraged the community to contribute to education and appealed to the administrative government to support and find solutions to the education problem in the region.
For his part, the Director of Examinations in Abyei, Mr. Ring Monydhang, said that the number of students sitting for exams last year reached 504, noting that 56 students in the Science Section passed, and only 12 students in the Arts Section passed.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Manyuar Chiefdom Bagat Makuac Abiem, urged the failing students to repeat the class and catch up with their classmates and appealed to parents to follow up on their children in schools.
