The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) discussed the security situation in the Abyei area, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ramadan Mohamed Abdullah, and the Minister of East African Affairs, Deng Alor Kuol.
The meeting discussed the humanitarian situation in Abyei and the impact of the war in Sudan on the region.
The Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNISFA Major General Robert Yaw Affram, said the support and cooperation of the United Nations Interim Security Force is needed to ensure peace and security in Abyei.
Gen. Affram added that the meeting also discussed the presence of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) in Abyei, a demilitarized zone.
Last week, a high-level delegation from the UNISFA mission visited the capital, Juba, to meet with officials of the national government and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
