Heavy rainwater forced dozens of families in Abyei town to leave their homes in various residential neighborhoods.
Mrs. Aluel Maroab Chan, a mother of four children living in the Manyiel Rou, said heavy rainwater forced them to leave their homes and build a temporary shelter in the dirt.
She stated that her four children suffered from infections due to humidity and asked the government to assist those affected.
For her part, Ms. Abuk Mathiang Atem said that her house was damaged by rainwater, noting that she suffers from the absence of shelter materials such as tarpaulins.
She urged the government and organizations to assist them with food supplies and non-food items, noting that she had purchased wood with her money.
While the Head of the Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies of Abyei Special Administrative Area and Chairperson of the Disaster Management Committee, Hon. Abionweng Majith Diing, said that the committee is working with organizations in surveying to provide in-kind and food assistance.
She urged citizens affected by rainwater to be patient until the administrative government provides aid as soon as possible.
