The Abyei Youth Union launched an initiative aimed at achieving peace and reconciliation among youth in the Abyei Special Administrative Area and Twic County of Warrap State.
The Union said that they contacted the youth leadership in Twic to draw up a road map for holding a youth conference between the two sides to discuss issues of peace and reconciliation.
The Chairperson of the Abyei Youth Union, Mr. Deng Aguer, confirmed their agreement to meet with the youth from the two communities in the coming months to discuss the cessation of hostilities and fighting and reach peace and reconciliation.
For his part, the Chairperson of Twic Youth, Mr. Wol Achuil, welcomed the initiative, saying they had accepted the invitation.
Achuil stressed their determination to end the fighting and return to peace between the two sisterly communities.
He pointed out that the dispute must be stopped through dialogue and reaching peace and reconciliation.
The youth in Abyei and Twic suggest that the joint conference discuss how to stop the fighting and hostilities and leave the solution of the land dispute to the national government.
