The Health Department of the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) confirmed that it had received enough therapeutic medications for seven months, with support from Save the Children International and UNICEF, to prevent the effects of the expected floods in the region.
This came in a statement by the Director General of the Health Department to (Abyei FM) on Thursday, August 29th, 2024.
Mr. Biong Nyok confirmed that 2 tons of therapeutic medicines for malaria and infections from Save the Children International, sufficient for three months, had arrived in Agok and part of Abyei.
Last week, the Health Department received various medications provided as support from UNICEF by the Goal Organization, sufficient for four months.
Nyok added that the aim of providing medicines is to prevent the effects of the expected floods that are accompanied by diseases such as infections and malaria in children due to humidity and the breeding of mosquitoes in stagnant water.
He added that he expects medicines to be distributed in health centers after the deportation procedures are completed.
Nyok explained that his administration is working hard with the National Ministry of Health and partners to provide free health services in the Abyei Area.
