Citizens in the Abyei Special Administrative Area complained of the significant increase in food commodities and fuel prices.
A 10-kg sack of sugar is sold for 75,000 SSP, a 50-kg sack of flour for 150,000 SSP, and a sack of rice for 190,000 SSP, among other food commodities.
Nyankuer Chol, a resident of Abyei, said that the rise in prices has worsened their living conditions, noting that 10 kilograms of sugar is now sold for 75,000 SSP and a kilo of meat for 16,000 SSP.
Nyankuer called on the Chamber of Commerce to intervene and monitor traders to control prices.
For his part, Deng Agok said that the price of a liter of petrol reached 22,000 SSP, and the price of a gasoline jerry can range between 100,000 to 150,000 SSP, and he pointed out that there is difficulty in obtaining fuel.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce in the Abyei Administration, Mr. Chol Deng Chol, confirmed that the rise in prices of food commodities and fuel revealing that is due to the interruption of main roads due to the rains.
Deng said that more than 200 trucks loaded with goods were parked between Abyei and Twic County due to the road blockage.
