The Abyei Special Administrative Area Government has urged citizens to purify drinking water to prevent hepatitis E.
This came after the announcement of an increase in cases of the disease in Abyei from 54 to 58 cases, including six deaths.
The head of information, culture, youth, and sports Hon. Bulis Koch Aguar, said in a statement to Abyei FM, on Friday 5th October 2024, that the disease is constantly increasing in the region, calling on citizens to prevent it by using chlorine pills or boiling drinking water in a fire.
Koch appealed to citizens who go to the Amiet Market to avoid drinking in public places, noting that most cases of the disease are from there.
He also appealed to the National Ministry of Health to intervene urgently to limit the spread of the disease.
