The United Nations Interim Security for Abyei, UNISFA’s Community Liaison office, distributed non-food items to about 120 people with special needs including 75 females in Abyei town on Monday, October 21st, 2024.
The items include blankets, empty jerrycans, gumboots, mosquito nets, and raincoats among other things.
The distribution is part of the mission’s quick response to floods which began in August.
The Secretary-General for the Union of People with Special Needs said aid provision came after they wrote to the UN for assistance a few months ago.
Mr. Abraham Arop Chol thanked UNISFA saying that his members are sometimes excluded from society which is not good.
He urged members of the union who didn’t receive these items to be patient for the next opportunity.
On her part, Angelina Nyankat thanked UNISFA, noting that the items will help her a lot.
She called on other humanitarian organizations to help them with plastic sheets.
The union of people with special needs managed to register about 610 of its members in 2024.
