United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei’s INBAT contingent has handed over seven classrooms and one office to the administration of education and instruction.
The new classrooms are part of Abyei Boys Secondary School in Gongbial opposite to education headquarters.
The semi-concrete buildings were handed over on Tuesday 22nd October.
The Head Administrator for Education and Instruction said the construction was a cooperation between the government and UNISFA.
Hon. Nyinkuany Aguer Bol said his department paid 3 million pounds, the commissioners council 12 million pounds, and the government 4 million pounds.
Hon. Nyinkuany urged UNIFSA to support the operationalization of the computer institute, physics and chemistry labs, and construction of four counties’ education offices.
The representative of the commissioners’ council said the completion of classrooms will help reduce congestion in the schools and separate boys and girls.
He pleaded with the community to preserve the school’s surrounding environment.
United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Head of Mission representative said that UNISFA is working with the Abyei government to upgrade education infrastructures for a brighter future for Abyei’s children because they deserve that.
He assured tabling the education department recommendations before the mission’s leadership.
The UN representative promised to complete the remaining classroom and office to make it eight classrooms and two offices.
The handover occasion was attended by members of the local legislature council, Deputy Chief Administrator, Head of Education Administration and Instruction, Deputy Abyei Town Mayor, chiefs, teachers, and some students.
Classrooms and office construction began in early June 2024.
