The Commissioner of Mijak County in Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) has called for the repatriation of people to Wunpeth village northwest of Agok.
The commissioner spoke to (Abyei FM) on Monday 28th October.
Hon. Luar Mayol Deng said the return of the people to Wunpeth village will secure the road from frequent ambushes that occur from time to time.
He assures that county authorities will provide security to the returnees, noting that they will clean the village very soon.
On his part, Deng Dholej Deng a displaced from the village expressed his readiness to go back to his home but with a condition.
“The village has become a bush now and authorities must make sure that grasses and trees are cleared off” he stressed.
Wunpeth villagers left their homes after the eruption of conflict between Ngok and Twic in February 2022.
Now the village has become a place for deadly road ambushes where the former Deputy Chief Administrator and former Head Administrator for Physical Infrastructures and Public Utilities were killed along with many other citizens.
The latest incident was this month as a health worker in Agok Hospital was killed.
These incidents happened despite the deployment of SSPDF and the presence of a UN base just north of the village.
