The administration of physical infrastructure and public utilities in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) in collaboration with the UN’s Vietnam engineering contingent, began repairing the Abyei-Agok road, which had been seriously damaged by rains and floods.
The director of roads and bridges spoke to (Abyei FM) on Monday 4th November.
Mr. Lal Kuol Mijak said they began the repairs of the 40km road with mud level and raising the height of the road since October.
“Now we are working on the Nyok chol section while the Ghanaians are smoothing the section from Wunpeth-Abathok,” he narrated.
Kuol has noted that they are facing some challenges, such as some communities refusing to dig black clay from their areas, some drivers and pedestrians tempering with engineers while working on the road, and flood water.
He urged communities to cooperate with his department and allow them to take clay to accelerate the repairs and drivers should respect directives for safety while carrying out the maintenance.
The drivers’ union’s information secretary has denied the accusations labeled against his colleagues, but he rather encouraged the government to expedite the road repairs to allow service delivery to the needy populations.
Mr. Lual Arop Yol pleaded with his colleagues to respect the rules for everybody’s safety.
