The polio campaign has kicked off in Abyei Special Administration Area’s four counties and Abyei town municipality with support from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
The director of the expanded immunization program told (Abyei FM) on Monday 18th November.
Mr. Youssuf Lal Ayom said the campaign will cover also areas in the north and target 19,000 children from the ages of 0 to 5 years.
He elaborated that the four-day campaign was managed in each rural village with support from humanitarian organizations.
Lal added that his department is facing several challenges such as a shortage of fridges, mobility, and road inaccessibility, noting that they have only one fridge to save vaccines and two vehicles.
“Our teams can’t reach Marial Achaak and Taj Alei villages because of road inaccessibility,”. Lal said.
Achai Biong a mother of an infant who lives in the Abyeijongyom neighborhood says that her child was vaccinated against polio and thanked the health department for its efforts to immunize children.
She urged mothers to ensure their children get the routine vaccine and cooperate with the teams administering the doses.
