The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, UNISFA’s UN Police graduated 23 students in tailoring at the women’s center in Abyei town on Wednesday 27th November.
The occasion was organized under the theme; “Empowering Women and Transforming Lives”.
UNISFA Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Gen. Robert Affram addressed the graduates.
He said the skills women acquired are not sewing only but sustainable skills that will enable them for dignified lives and meaningful contributions in society.
“This program is a key example to fight gender-based violence through the provision of necessary tools to women for economic freedom,” he added.
Gen. AFrram congratulated the graduates and urged them to earn an income through their choices for a sustainable bright future.
On her part, graduate, Awuor Miyen Miokol thanked UNISFA and whoever contributed to their training success.
She said these skills will enable her to support her children.
This is the first time that UNISFA supported a tailoring program that lasted for seven months at the women’s center.
