The chairperson of the youth union in Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) has called on the community to defy hate speech and tribalism and promote peace in the area.
Mr. Deng Aguer Deng was speaking to the Umbrella program on Thursday.
Auger said that “Hate speech and sectarianism have increased among communities in the Abyei area and it must be fought by all through cooperation”.
The chairperson of the women’s union, Ms. Awuor Anyiel alluded to his counterpart’s call, saying that hate speech encouraged violence against individuals and groups.
Another young has called for the community to fight against things that divide people and work for peace and unity.
Lual Arop Yol said that people shouldn’t post anything that causes rifts, and that people must verify information before sharing it.
Gongmou Yak, a local journalist has urged youth, women, and traditional authority to organize workshops that defy hate speech, debunk rumors, and promote peace and reconciliation.
