The Department of Education in Rumamer County received new textbooks from South Sudan on Wednesday. Santino Aleu Madut, Director of Education in the county told Abyei FM that they have got 37 textbooks for senior and 18 for senior two and will be distributed after they are stamped.
He says the books have arrived at the right time.

“We received last week books from general education. We started to distribute textbooks to primary schools, for class one, three, five and seven. Though some books are missing, we distributed the ones we received to schools.” says Aleu.

Aleu says primary school textbooks have also been brought though he did not mention the quantity.

However, Aleu complains that the textbooks are not enough.

Despite the arrival of the new stationery, some classroom teachers especially of classes with more than one streams are still struggling to get  books for preparing their lessons.

Shortage of textbooks was one of the major challenges facing education in Abyei Administrative Area.
