A gunman injured one person in Rubjaba village east of Agok on Wednesday morning, Agok Administrative Unit official says.
Deng Ali Bathbuny, Executive Director of Agok Administrative Unit says unknown gunman attacked the village injuring a man in the leg.
“Early this morning at around four o’clock at dawn, an unknown gunman sneaked into “RUBJABA” village and opened fired on civilians while they were sleeping. One young man was injured in his leg. The reason of the attack was unknown because there was no any livestock. The aim was raiding cows. I think the reason was to frighten people and cause instability the village,” Deng explains.
He says the wounded man is being treated at MSF hospital in Agok.
Deng urges youth to be vigilant.
In April 13th, militiamen said to be from Misseriya, killed 4 people and burnt about 60 houses in Mabok village in Abyei Administrative Area.
Efforts to resolve the deteriorating security in the region are being planned. Last month, Juba and Khartoum agreed on quick resolution to growing violence in Abyei area. Implementation of this outcome is yet to come to daylight.
Recently, the Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations in United Nations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, requested for the extension of United Nations Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA’s) mandate for six months.
