COVID-19 fighting committee in Agok tightens restrictions after confirmation of first COVID-19 case in Abyei Administrative Area

A subcommittee set to fight COVID-19 in Agok, has delegated heads of residential areas committees in Agok to strictly impose the guidelines set to control the spread of COVID-19.

Deng Ali Bathbuny, the Executive Director of Agok Administrative Unit, says the meeting also resolved to ban large grouping in places such as playgrounds and funeral places to curtail the transmission of COVID-19.

The body met on Friday last week, after health authorities announced the first case of coronavirus infection in Abyei on 10th May.

Social gatherings in the residential areas are still common despite public awareness.

Ali says heads of residential committees will be reporting to them implementation of the directives.

COVID-19 committees were formed in all counties in Abyei, to conduct public awareness and monitor implementation of COVID-19 restrictions.
Travellers from Sudan continue to come to Abyei despite total lockdown being imposed by Sudan government.
