Reports say a young man was found dead on Monday in a forest near Amiet market where he was making charcoals. According to the sources the unnamed man died of gun wound. The assailants are unknown though sources suspect Misseriya armed men of killing.

The death occured on the same day Misseriya men and some members of Community Police fought at the check point south of Amiet market.

Last month, another man was found dead in the forest near the same market. No one has been arrested so far.

Although no one apart from the the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is allowed to carry guns in Abyei territory, killing using guns is common.

A week ago, an armed attack believed to have been carried out by Misseriya, left two people dead in Dungob village east of Abyei town. In April 13th four people were killed and three others went missing during an arm raid on Mabok village.

UN Security Council last month extended UNISFA’s mandate till November 2020. The UN called on South Sudan and Sudan to support UNISFA by removing obstacles to peace and stability.

Demilitarization of the area from armed elements including of all communities in Abyei, was stressed in the UN security council resolution that gave UNISFA additional six months to continue carrying out its tasks in the region contested between Sudan and South Sudan.
