Community Police in Abathok is investigating two armed men they apprehended in Agac village on Sunday. The Administrative Director of Abathok, Aguek Lual, says the men were accused of threatening family members of a man who eloped their daughter with guns.
He also claimed that the family of the girl opened fire on the police who were sent to contain the situation. He added that police are searching for other two men who took part in the incident.
Aguek urges the community to solve issues related to marriage in a peaceful traditional way. Elopement is one of the traditional ways of initiatng marriage among the Dinka Ngok.
In case of an elopement, the family of the man invites girl’s family for discussion. It is in this meeting that both parents will agree or disagree on the union of the two.
