172 mature girls from Comboni schools in Abyei Administrative Area have received hygiene kits. Each kit contains bathing soap, sanitary pads, underwear and nail cutters. The items are assistance from Bishop Garssis Foundation, a Catholic church-based organization.
Agorot Ayom Nyok, a teacher at Comboni Juol Jok primary school confirmed that 85 girls from her school were given sanitary pads. 39 girls from Comboni Abyei primary and 48 others in Comboni secondary school also received assistance. The distribution started on Thursday.
The organization gives such assistance to girls yearly, but this is the first time for it to reach Comboni secondary girls. Lack of access to basic necessities are some of the reasons girls drop out of schools. More than 400 schoolgirls are expected to benefit from this program.
