Gunmen killed a man in Kol-Bol village west of Abyei town on Sunday morning. Mading Anyang Kuol, the Acting Secretary General of Abyei Administrative Area says the man was shot dead by armed men believed to be from Misseriya.
The man killed and other civilians were there to clear bushes for resettlement. Last month, two people were killed, and several herds of cattle were raided in Kol-bol village.
Attacks including killing of civilians, cattle raid have increased in Abyei since the late last year. Authorities estimated that more than 1,500 herds of cattle have been raided last three months.
Despite Abyei being arm-free zone with United Nations Security Force for Abyei, UNISFA, the only ones allowed to carry guns, gunshot deaths are still reported. Since January this year, more than 50 civilians have lost their lives in separate armed attacks including cattle raiding and road ambushes.
