Inmates in Agok Police Station demand COVID-19 test

Suspects jailed at Agok Police Station are saying they should be taken for COVID-19 test after one of them tested positive for the virus last week. They are worried that they might have contracted the Coronavirus.

Deng John is the Head of Agok community police station. He says the inmates have been confined in the facility since the time their colleague tested positive for the coronavirus. John says health authorities did not return to the facility for health advice or action.

On Thursday last week, John confirmed that there were two inmates who needed to be taken for COVID-19 test because they were contacts of the COVID-19 patient. The policeman also said the prison was vacated for cleaning with disinfectants.

One of the measures to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus, is isolation of COVID-19 patient or suspect for sometimes. Frequent hand washing is another way to protect yourself and others from contracting COVID-19. The virus is passed from one person to another through droplets from mouth or nose of a Coronavirus patient.

As of Tuesday, 34 cases of COVID-19 including one death, have been confirmed in Abyei Administrative Area.
