The newly appointed Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area, Kuol Deim Kuol met members of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition from Abyei Area. The meeting was held at Abyei Coordination office in Juba on Wednesday.
The Chairperson of SPLM-IO in Abyei Administrative Area, Nyenagwek Kuol, led the team. Jok Alor, Secretary General of SPLM-IO in Abyei told Abyei FM that security and service delivery to people in Abyei were discussed in the meeting. Jok confirmed the possibility of SPLM-IO’s participation in the upcoming administration.
“The second in the meeting was to introduce ourselves to new chief administrator, we children from Abyei in opposition party. We have 27 % share in all levels of government in South Sudan. We, as opposition will participate in the new administration in Abyei if nothing goes wrong because the agreement signed did not have any exception.”
South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement gives SPLM 55 percent, SPLM-IO 27 percent, South Sudan Opposition Alliance 10 percent and 8 percent to other political parties.
Appointed by the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, through a presidential decree in late June, Kuol took oath of office on 1st July. He is expected to land in Abyei from Juba on Thursday. In Abyei, committee responsible for the reception of the Chief Administrator has done the necessary preparations.
Kuol Deim Kuol is the sixth chief administrator of Abyei Administrative area. His predecessors are Late Edward Lino Wuor Abyei, Arop Moyak Monjtoch, Deng Arop Kuol, Chol Deng Alaak and Kuol Alor Kuol.
Kuol Deim Kuol is a non-active lieutenant general in South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).
