The University of Juba is switching to online studies due to COVID-19 pandemic. All students including for postgraduate and diploma programs will be taking lessons online.
According to the plan shared on face book by John Akec, Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, the electronic learning will be effective in late August this year. The plan was passed by the university staff in a meeting held in Juba last Friday.
In his post, Akec says all teaching staff have agreed to prepare learning materials. He also says lecturers will be trained on “integration of digital technologies in teaching. “
“Diploma students will be given only take-home exams with a weight of 40% and assignments and midterm tests to account for 60%” Akec wrote.
In March, president of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, ordered the closure of universities and other learning institutions due to fear of COVID-19. South Sudan has more than 2,100 confirmed cases of the pandemic including 41 deaths.
