Some people in Abyei are appealing to Abyei Administration to give them free face masks. A man living in Rumamer village said the administration should give face masks to everyone and make its use mandatory in public places.
William Chol told Abyei FM during COVID-19 prevention awareness campaign on Monday, that many people in the villages cannot afford face masks. Chol suggested punishment for defiance of COVID-19 preventive guidelines saying many people are not following them.
In response, the acting head of health administration in Abyei Area says they will give free face masks to people who cannot afford them. Nyanwut Miyen Kuol says, they produced nine hundred face masks and some of them have been given out. However, Nyanwut says the administration has no budget to buy face masks for everyone in Abyei Area.
Abyei Administrative Area has 34 confirmed cases of Coronavirus including one death. South Sudan has 2,148 confirmed cases of theCoronavirus pandemic, out of which 41 are fatalities. The global COVID-19 infections stand at 13,039,853 including 571659 deaths as of Tuesday, according to data on Eye radio news network website.
