Bishop Gassis relief and rescue foundation, will stop paying teachers’ salaries in Comboni primary and secondary schools in Abyei Administrative Area. Bishop Gassis Relief and Rescue Foundation is a Catholic church-based organization.

Father Paul Okeny is the director of schools under the care of Holy Virgin Mary in Abyei Area. He says they will stop payment of salaries starting from September until the end of the school calendar. The reason he said, is a shortage of funds caused by low payment of school fees.

According to him, seventy-five percent of teachers’ salaries comes from money paid by learners. The priest said he met head teachers, teachers and PTA members and discussed this matter. There are more than ninety teachers teaching in schools run by Catholic Church in Abyei Administrative Area.
