People alerted to prepare for predicted floods

People living along the main rivers have been told to think of alternative ways to protect themselves from the predicted flood. The newChief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area Kuol Deim Kuol said there is likelihood of flooding this year.

He said he was told to pass this information to people, by his supervisor, Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan. Kuol claimed that Uganda has released water from its dam in Jinja causing flooding in some countries of east Africa.

According to Kuol flooding is expected in seven states of South Sudan located along the Nile river and its tributaries. Some parts of Jonglei state have already been affected by flood.

Early this month, more than 20,000 people from Duk, Bor and Twic East counties in Jonglei state were displaced after heavy rains.
