The chief administrator of Abyei Administrative Area has promised to give 35 percent of his administration to women in Abyei. Kuol Deim Kuol said this in a rally he held in Abyei town on Tuesday evening.
Women in Abyei have been complaining about low representation in the administration. Earlier this month, women leaders demanded for appointment to senior positions in both executive and legislature. They mentioned the position of deputy chief administrator among the ones they need.
There are about 46 political positions in Abyei administrative Area, but only six of them are being held by women. South Sudan’s recent peace agreement gives 35 percent to women.
