Some civilians in Rumbek in Lakes state have willingly given 631 guns to disarmament forces. The office of the state governor told Eye Radio on Thursday. Mayor Mou who is the Press Secretary in the office of governor said the locals had shown a great cooperation with disarmament soldiers.

“The disarmament is continuing with the rest of the counties; remember Lakes has eight counties,” Mou said.

The weapons include PKMs and AK47s. Last month the president of South Sudan launched a disarmament as part of ending a cycle of violence in some parts of the country. The targeted areas in the campaign are mainly Jonglei, Lakes, Warrap and part of Central Equatoria states.

The disarmament in Warrap on 8th August turned into a violence between South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, SSPDF and armed youth in Tonj county, Warrap state.
