Abyei FM has been launched officially on Wednesday in Agok town. The station went on air in March this year, but its official launching delayed due to Covid -19.
Abyei FM radio equipment were generously donated to Abyei Information and Radio Service (AIRS) by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). With a broadcasting radius of 60 KM, Abyei FM aims at informing and educating people with information that changes their lives. It started as a radio program in 2013 to inform and educate the people of Abyei about the referendum proposed by the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHLIP) led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki.
As a result, popular programs which include Abyei Today and Abyei This Weekend were produced and broadcasted on its partner stations on Mayardit and Akol Yam FM.
The station is being managed by AIRS; a national NGO committed to community service in partnership with Internews South Sudan.
As the first radio station in Abyei, the station aims at boosting its cover to cover many places in Aweil, Warrap, Wau and Unity States among others in future.
