Abyei Information and Radio Service (AIRS) has on Tuesday received some broadcast equipment for its radio Abyei FM at its office in Juoljok, Agok.
The equipment donated by AIRS partner, Intrenews, South Sudan include 2 audio consoles, one microphone and two desktop computers, among others meant to re-equip the two studios that were destroyed by fire on 24th December, 2020.
AIRS Program Manager and Executive Editor, Karbino Dut Aguek says the arrival of these tools signifies management’s effort to restore broadcast late January. He hoped all equipment will be secured soon.
The station’s top Manager says a lot of trials are being made to ensure that the missing tools are acquired, and the station resumes broadcast.
The tools which are missing are headphone amplifiers, phone hybrid and broad monitors, among others. These, according to him will cause $ 10, 000, calling for further assistance from well-wishers.
On the Christmas eve, last year, a fire outbreak from an AC unit burnt the two studios of Abyei FM, destroying broadcast equipment worth about $ 60,000.
The incident that occurred about two weeks after the official inauguration of the radio shocked many listeners. It has deprived an estimated 150,000 listeners who rely on Abyei FM of news and information they need.
Abyei FM covers the whole of Abyei region and some areas in Ruweng Administrative Area, Warrap, Northern Bahr el ghazal and Unity States.
