Warrap state government has approved murrum for roads repair in Abyei Administrative Area.
The Acting Head of Agriculture Forestry, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Chol Arithok who accompanied the Chief Administrator, Kuol Deim Kuol to Warrap state’s capital, Kuajok last week, told Abyei FM on Friday that the governor of Warrap state and elders have given the murrum for road work in Abyei.
However, Chol outlined some conditions including building a fence around the area where murrum, drilling a borehole at the public school and upgrading a7-km road to from the murrum site to the main road.
The official said they will share these demands with United Nation Interim Security Force for Abyei for possible support. “So, we said we should come and share these things with UNISFA if they can manage,” said Chol.
Chol added that road repair in the area will start this month after the completion of administrative process.
In a related development, the renovation of the road connecting Gogrial with Akon town in Warrap State has begun in recent days. The phase 3 project is also covering road connecting Gogrial with Twic County.
A statement published on Warrap State governor’s press unit describes the work as moving in a rapid speed. It is expected that all parts of the state will be connected by road within this dry season.
According to the statement, upgrading the road linking Tonj South with Western Bhar Ghazal is expected to start soon.
In November, the governor of Warrap State Hon. Bona Panek announced that road construction as one of his priorities to ease movement during rainy season. The program first began with road connecting Kuajok to Wau which is in its final state.
