Authorities say unidentified gunmen killed a soldier in Bombil area in Ajakuach Payam, Twic County, Warrap on Saturday.
The victim fell in the hands of assailants while cutting woods in the bush for house construction. The area Executive Director says the gun of the deceased was taken by the attackers.
Sources say the soldier killed who got killed was from South Sudan People’s Defense Force deployed in the area. Abyei FM could not reach SSPDF command in Ajakuach for confirmation.
Mr. Maker Mariik Maker says soldiers have been deployed along the road to reduce criminal activities.
“There are soldiers because have established outposts but the only problem now is that criminals keep on hiding in place where he can’t be seen and then come a crime a go. Another challenge is that the place is so bushy, there are a lot of trees and grass which makes it difficult to see. As of now the situation is stable,” said Mariik.
No suspect has been apprehended in connection to the incident, but authorities say a search is being conducted.
In another news development but separate, a foreign national was stopped at gunpoint on Sunday and flogged till he became unconscious. Unknown gunmen flogged the man who was on his way to Abiemonm on realizing that he was carrying nothing very valuable.
Meanwhile in Marialguotjuor-in the same payam, herders defused attempted cattle raiding following an exchange of gunfire with unknown gunmen.
