An observer from South Sudan Football Association, Thiong John, says the elections were conducted in an “excellent atmosphere and high spirit.”

The newly elected chairperson, Alor Awet says his priority is to revive football and bring unity among sportsmen in the area.

Alor through is business has been supporting football activities in the area since last year. Earlier last month, his company, Salaama alongside other companies including Achai Wiir donated a bus to Abyei Football Association – a handout that might have paved his way to winning elections.

This is the second election since this football body was formed in 2016.  The polls were to take place in June last year but were delayed because of Covid-19 pandemic.
