The administration of education in Abyei Administrative Area has received an official communication about reopening of all schools in the area.
The director general of education says they have been informed to open schools by South Sudan’s ministry of general education.
John Ajang Kiir says the administration is meeting directors of education in counties, school head teachers and parents for additional instructions.
“The arrangement is going on well. We are preparing to open all schools by holding the meetings with all education departments in the counties. We are ready to open schools on date 3 May,” Ajang says.
Nyandeng Garang, a class seven pupil in Comboni-Abyei primary school expressed happiness upon hearing the decision to unlock school doors.
“It is a good decision for us to return to school. I am ready to return to school. Thanks to the administration of education for the decision. I want to say to all students to work hard to complete their studies in the name of God,” she says.
The government of South Sudan ordered closure of learning facilities among other public places in March last year to control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
In October last year, only candidate classes resumed after six months of shutdown.
On Wednesday last week ,the Minister of General Education and Instruction in South Sudan, Hon. Awut Deng Acuil, unveiled the plan to reopen schools across the country.
